Our best advice here at Topline is to spend time fluffing and shaping your tree – wear long sleeves and cotton gloves when doing this to avoid scratches! Although this can feel like a time-consuming task a properly shaped tree is really worth it. Work from the bottom up separating each branch so they fan out and bend to fill any gaps. I promise you won’t regret this step. Alternatively, if fluffing isn’t for you there are always pop-up trees– creating a quick and easy festive look in seconds.

Deciding on a theme gives you a better idea of how to decorate your tree and really pulls the whole thing together to create that magical Christmas look. Need some inspiration? Here are some of our favourites:

Traditional, lots of reds, golds and greens to create the ultimate Christmassy feel. Use a variety of Christmas decorations to achieve the look but keep it consistent by sticking to the colour scheme.


Winter Wonderland, with lots of whites, silvers and even some icy blue this frosty inspired look works well on both green and flocked trees. A heaping of glittering tinsel, and ornaments in various blue & silver hues. A white fur Christmas tree skirt is the perfect snowy finish.


Neutral Tree, golds, coppers and cream tones create an elegant festive feel. Stick to Christmas classics like glass ball ornaments, pinecones, and wooden decorations. A willow tree skirt really finishes off this look.


Candy Cane, stick to red and white for a candy cane inspired tree. Add some hanging candy canes, group together the red & white baubles, even use some ribbon to really make this design pop.

The best piece of advice when it comes to lights is plug them in to check if they are working before you put them on the tree! Always add lights first and work from the bottom up, try to get an even coverage and secure onto the branches. Take the time to make sure you are happy with the placement before adding any decorations.

    

Now you’ve chosen a theme and the lights are on its time for the fun part, dressing our tree. This is where your design will really come to life. Baubles come in many shapes, sizes and colours the possibilities are endless. A top tip is to start adding baubles from the inside and work your way out. Dividing your tree into three sections, bottom, middle, top and finishing each section before you move onto the next helps you to keep them evenly spaced. Don’t forget to add a variety of plain and decorated baubles as well as different sizes to keep it interesting. If you need some inspiration, you can find a large selection of baubles

Another subtle addition you can use to compliment your theme are picks or floral sprays. We have a wide variety available, they help to fill gaps and can elevate the look of your tree without overpowering your other decorations.

    

Now you are ready to add the finishing touches and watch your vision come to life. A beautiful tree topper is the perfection addition to your tree, whether you decide to choose a star, an angel or a big bow just remember to check the height of your ceilings first. Another statement piece to add and something that is often overlooked, a tree skirt, not only does it hide the stand it also helps create a cohesive look.
